As Team India gears up for their first Super 8 match against South Africa on February 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, former cricketer Sanjay Bangar shares his insights on the team’s potential. He believes that the best performances from the ‘Men in Blue’ are yet to be seen, with all players being match-ready. “The encouraging part is that their peak performance is still to come. It’s also beneficial that every player has had a chance to play, which is crucial if any injuries arise as the tournament progresses. Every player is match-fit,” Bangar stated.

He pointed out the need for improvement in catching, as the team missed a few crucial opportunities in earlier matches. “If there’s one area they need to focus on, it’s catching. We witnessed several dropped catches against Pakistan and the Netherlands,” Bangar commented.

Bangar then identified three players he believes will be vital for India’s success in the remainder of the tournament. He highlighted Ishan Kishan’s importance, especially since fellow opener Abhishek Sharma is struggling to find his form. Additionally, he praised captain Suryakumar Yadav for his consistent scoring and emphasized that lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be key in high-pressure situations.

“The three players who will be crucial for India’s campaign in this T20 World Cup are the ones in form. Ishan Kishan has been exceptional, especially given Abhishek Sharma’s challenges with scoring. It’s now Ishan’s responsibility to deliver explosive starts—he’s player number one. The second is Suryakumar Yadav, who has consistently scored while adapting to match situations. Finally, Jasprit Bumrah is essential; while much attention is on the spin department, I believe Bumrah will be pivotal in tight matches when it comes to bowling,” explained the 53-year-old former cricketer.

India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 includes Suryakumar Yadav (c), Sanju Samson (WK), Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan (WK), Rinku Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Abhishek Sharma, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, and Tilak Varma.
