During the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the West Indies, India showcased their dominance with a five-wicket victory at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This triumph secured the ‘Men in Blue’ a place in the semi-finals, where they are set to face England on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium. Earlier in the tournament, India triumphed over their long-standing rivals, Pakistan, winning by 61 runs in a thrilling group stage match.

Veteran cricketer Rohit Sharma reflected on the fierce rivalry between India and Pakistan, naming the 2007 final as his all-time favorite encounter. “My favorite T20 World Cup match against Pakistan was definitely the final we played; nothing can beat that. We went on to win the World Cup,” Rohit shared.

He also reminisced about their earlier match against Pakistan in the same year, which was uniquely decided by a bowl-out. “In 2007, we also faced Pakistan in a league game that was the only match in the tournament decided by a bowl-out, and we emerged victorious there as well. Both World Cup games in 2007 were truly special,” the 38-year-old recalled.

As the Suryakumar Yadav-led squad gears up for their clash against the ‘Three Lions,’ the team will be looking for a strong performance from their explosive opener Abhishek Sharma. Meanwhile, despite a promising start to the tournament, Ishan Kishan is currently seeking to regain his form with the bat.

Before India takes the field, South Africa and New Zealand will compete in the first semi-final on March 4 at Eden Gardens. The grand finale of this global event is scheduled for March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India’s squad for the T20 World Cup includes: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Sanju Samson (WK), Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan (WK), Rinku Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Abhishek Sharma, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, and Tilak Varma.
