As the excitement builds for the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final between England and Team India, scheduled for March 5 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has shared his thoughts on Jasprit Bumrah’s role. Gavaskar believes that India’s ace pace bowler should be utilized for at least two overs during the powerplay. He emphasizes the importance of Bumrah’s ability to strike early, stating, “If he can take down key players like Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, and Harry Brook, it would significantly weaken the England lineup.”

Gavaskar elaborated on the strategy, suggesting that if Bumrah bowls later in the innings, the batsmen will have already settled in after facing a few deliveries. “Having him bowl the fifth over gives the batters too much time to acclimatize. It would be far more advantageous for both Bumrah and India if he were to take them on right from the start,” he explained.

With several English players accustomed to Indian conditions and the pressure of knockout games, Gavaskar anticipates a thrilling encounter. “Both teams are well-balanced, featuring strong batting line-ups, effective finishers, and diverse bowling attacks. Given that England has players with IPL experience, this clash promises to be a nail-biter,” the 76-year-old former cricketer asserted.
