As the T20 World Cup 2026 approaches, Team India is gearing up for a crucial semi-final against England, set to take place on March 5 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. A key focus will be on opening batsman Abhishek Sharma and whether he can regain his form. Former cricketer Ravi Shastri has emphasized the importance of monitoring Sharma during net sessions to assess his readiness. “It’s crucial for the management to determine if he’s mentally prepared. They should engage in discussions with him and observe his performance in the nets,” Shastri noted, as reported by the ICC.
Shastri also suggested a potential lineup change, recommending that Ishan Kishan be elevated in the batting order, with Rinku Singh brought in for the lower order. “If that’s the case, I would consider moving Ishan Kishan up and bringing Rinku Singh in at the bottom,” he explained.
Reflecting on past performances, Shastri recalled that during their last encounter with England, Abhishek scored an impressive 135 runs, marking the highest T20I score by an Indian batsman. He expressed confidence in the 25-year-old, highlighting his ability to deliver big scores. “I would still stick with him, especially since he had an excellent series against England last time. He has a track record of success at Wankhede, with quick and substantial innings. There’s ample strength in our batting lineup,” Shastri concluded.
