The highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2026 is gearing up for its second semi-final clash between Team India and England, set to take place on March 5 at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium. In preparation for this thrilling encounter, New Zealand’s Chris Gaffaney and South Africa’s Allahuddien Paleker have been appointed as the on-field umpires, while Zimbabwe’s Andy Pycroft will serve as the match referee.
Notably, Gaffaney previously officiated during the last edition when India faced England, showcasing his experience in high-stakes matches. Paleker also had a role in two of England’s matches during the current tournament, as well as India’s game against the Netherlands.
Joining the officiating team in Mumbai are Adrian Holdstock as the third umpire and Paul Reiffel as the fourth umpire. Fans will be eagerly anticipating a stellar performance from India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma, while Sanju Samson will aim to replicate his impressive form against the English side.
For the first semi-final, scheduled for March 4 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, England’s Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf will take on the roles of on-field umpires. They will be supported by Nitin Menon as the third umpire and Rod Tucker as the fourth umpire, with Javagal Srinath acting as the match referee.
Illingworth was part of the officiating team for South Africa’s T20 World Cup semi-final against Afghanistan two years ago, and Wharf oversaw New Zealand’s victory against the same team in the current tournament’s group stage. The South African team will be looking to secure a commanding win over the Black Caps to book their place in the final.
As excitement builds for the T20 World Cup 2026, cricket fans are eager to see which two teams will advance to the grand finale, scheduled for March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
