India’s cricket team emerged victorious against New Zealand, winning the T20 World Cup 2026 by a remarkable 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Following this significant achievement, captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed his delight over securing two consecutive championships for the team. He remarked, “Winning back-to-back trophies feels incredible. After our 2024 T20 World Cup victory, we aimed to clinch the title again in 2026 on home ground, and it feels amazing to accomplish that.” With the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy in hand, Yadav has turned his focus toward the Olympics, stating that the “Men in Blue” are riding a wave of positive momentum. “Our next goal is to secure gold for India at the Olympics. The Indian cricket team is in great form, and I’m committed to bringing more trophies home in the future,” he added. This victory marks a historic moment as it is the first time a team has successfully defended its title in the shortest format of the game. The Indian squad also made history by becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times (2007, 2024, and 2026) and the first to do so on home soil. In the final match, India set an imposing target of 256 runs, with standout performances from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan, all scoring half-centuries. Samson led the charge with an impressive 89 runs off 46 balls, while Abhishek and Ishan contributed 52 and 54 runs, respectively, aided by a vigorous cameo from Shivam Dube, who scored 26 runs off just 8 deliveries. New Zealand, in response, was bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs, with Jasprit Bumrah taking four wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs. Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Abhishek Sharma each chipped in with a wicket as well.
