Abhishek Sharma, the dynamic batsman from Team India, has successfully maintained his position as the leading player in the latest ICC Men’s T20I rankings, recently released by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This update comes on the heels of the Indian team’s impressive victory in the T20 World Cup 2026, where they triumphed over New Zealand by a staggering 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this win, India not only clinched back-to-back titles but also etched their name in history as the first team to secure three Men’s T20 World Cup championships.
Despite facing challenges with his form throughout the tournament, Abhishek rose to the occasion in the final match. After recording three ducks earlier in the tournament, he delivered a stellar performance, scoring 52 runs off just 21 balls, which included six boundaries and three sixes. His innings provided a solid foundation for the ‘Men in Blue’ as they set the stage against the ‘Black Caps’.
With this remarkable half-century, the 25-year-old batsman held onto his top ranking with a total of 875 rating points. His teammate, Ishan Kishan, follows closely in second place with 871 points, having climbed two spots in the rankings. Kishan also achieved a career-high rating, while New Zealand’s Tim Seifert and England’s Jacob Bethell made significant strides in their rankings after impressive performances during the World Cup.
In the final match, India batted first and posted an imposing score of 256 runs for the loss of five wickets in their full quota of 20 overs. Alongside Abhishek, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan also contributed half-centuries, with Samson scoring 89 runs off 46 balls, including five fours and eight sixes. Ishan added 54 runs from 25 deliveries, peppered with four boundaries and four sixes. Shivam Dube capped off the innings with a quickfire 26 runs off just eight balls.
In response, New Zealand was bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs, with India’s leading bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, returning outstanding figures of four wickets for just 15 runs. Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Abhishek each chipped in with one wicket, sealing a comprehensive victory for the team.
