As the Indian Premier League (IPL) gears up for its next season starting March 28, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has emphasized the significant pressure on Mumbai Indians’ star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. He remarked, “When you are Jasprit Bumrah, pressure is part of the package. He consistently delivers impactful performances, takes crucial wickets, and limits the opposition’s scoring. This level of responsibility adds immense pressure, as each of his four overs is invaluable for MI. He typically bowls one over in the powerplay, keeps one for the middle overs, and delivers two at the death. That pressure is a constant presence.” Chopra noted that regardless of the performances from players like Trent Boult or Deepak Chahar, Bumrah will always bear the burden of expectation. He also mentioned that Shardul Thakur could effectively step in for Chahar if needed. “Whether Boult performs well or Chahar is fit, Bumrah will still carry that weight. However, if Boult is available, MI will likely want to utilize him. They would prefer a fit, in-form Boult alongside Chahar, Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya as their primary pacers. Corbin Bosch is also in the mix as a strong all-rounder, but fitting all the overseas players into the lineup is a challenge,” Chopra explained. The Mumbai Indians will kick off their campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 29 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
