Akshay Kumar champions the return of genuine, visceral action films, criticizing the film industry’s increasing reliance on VFX and AI technology. As one of Hindi cinema’s pioneering action heroes, well-versed in martial arts like Karate, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and Kudo, Kumar expresses concern over the trend of creating flawless action sequences through digital effects.

In a recent interview with PTI, he remarked, “The landscape of action filmmaking has changed dramatically. Where once we had authentic stunts, now most of it is crafted using VFX, making the experience feel artificial. I long to create a film that embodies true action.”

He elaborated, saying, “If I jump, I want it to be a real jump, not a digital effect. If I deliver a kick, I want it to be genuine, not facilitated by a dozen people. My vision is to produce an action film that relies solely on real stunts.”

Kumar also voiced his discontent with the film industry’s growing dependence on AI, believing audiences can easily discern the difference between authentic action and that generated by technology. “In this age of AI, it’s my desire to create a film rooted in reality. The audience can sense the dedication behind true effort, unlike the convenience offered by digital enhancements,” he explained, drawing a comparison between handcrafted art and printed versions. “A real painting might have imperfections, but that’s what gives it character. I aspire to create that authentic artwork.”

Having made his mark as a leading action star with films like the Khiladi series, Mohra, and Suhaag, Kumar later ventured into drama and socially relevant narratives.

On the topic of franchise films, he expressed enthusiasm for participating in successful cinematic series such as Stree and Golmaal. His role in Stree 2 (2024) is both brief and impactful. Recently, he joined the cast of the fifth installment of the beloved Golmaal franchise, directed by Rohit Shetty, alongside stars like Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, and Tusshar Kapoor.

“Ajay once said, ‘I’m part of every franchise.’ If I have the opportunity to join Stree, why would I decline? I embrace franchise films because I am trusted to deliver, and being associated with something as significant as Golmaal is a privilege,” Kumar stated.

As for upcoming projects, he eagerly anticipates the release of Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, which is set to premiere on April 10.
