Bengaluru police have apprehended 11 individuals for allegedly engaging in the black market for IPL match tickets during the game on April 5, as reported on Tuesday. Authorities seized 28 IPL match tickets, 8 mobile phones, and WhatsApp screenshots linked to unauthorized online ticket sales, with a total value of Rs 4.53 lakh.
The Special Enquiry Squad of the CCB executed an operation on April 5 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the IPL T20 match featured the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Chennai Super Kings. During this operation, multiple cases were filed against those involved in the illegal ticket trade within the jurisdictions of Cubbon Park and Chamarajapet Police Stations.
In total, seven cases were registered, leading to the arrest of the 11 suspects. Reports from Cubbon Park Police Station indicate the recovery of seven mobile phones, 18 IPL tickets of varying prices, and WhatsApp screenshots used for online sales. Simultaneously, an individual arrested in Chamarajapet was found with one mobile phone, ten IPL tickets, and copies of WhatsApp messages related to ticket sales.
The police have initiated further investigations, with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh stating, “They were buying tickets at regular prices and reselling them at inflated rates… We will also monitor social media and apps to take action against offenders in the future.”
In other news, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have kicked off their IPL campaign with impressive victories, including a notable win against the Chennai Super Kings. The defending champions aim to become only the third team, after the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, to successfully defend their IPL title.
