As the Indian Premier League (IPL) gears up to begin on March 28, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has singled out Virat Kohli as a player to watch. He believes that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) superstar is poised for an impressive season among the league’s elite.
Chopra elaborated on his choice by highlighting Kohli’s exceptional fitness levels, stating, “Virat’s dedication to fitness sets him apart. As an opener, he has certain advantages. While Rohit Sharma shares similar qualities, I believe Kohli’s commitment and legacy give him an edge this season.”
Chopra also mentioned that Rohit Sharma should maintain his aggressive batting approach in the upcoming matches. With talented players like Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Quinton de Kock, and Suryakumar Yadav in the Mumbai Indians’ lineup, setting the tone early is essential.
“Rohit has a defined style of play, and in a batting order featuring the likes of Quinton de Kock and Hardik Pandya, he must maximize the first six overs. The strategy is clear: see the ball and hit it, unless the pitch suggests otherwise,” Chopra added.
The IPL 2026 season will kick off with a thrilling match between the defending champions, RCB, and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 28.
