In the IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced a narrow defeat by three wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Knight Riders are set to face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 14 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ahead of this matchup, former all-rounder Andre Russell, now serving as KKR’s ‘power coach,’ shared insights about his innovative role in the team.
Russell emphasized that his primary focus is to guide players in positioning themselves effectively to outmaneuver bowlers. “No team has ever had a power coach. My role is to highlight the significance of boundaries in T20 cricket, especially sixes. It’s about ensuring players are ready for whatever delivery a bowler might throw at them,” he explained.
He continued, “My job isn’t to overhaul a player’s technique or teach them how to swing their bat. Instead, it’s about enhancing their power-hitting skills and refining their approach. It’s been going exceptionally well so far.”
In the recent IPL match, KKR set a challenging target of 181 runs, with skipper Ajinkya Rahane shining with 41 runs off 24 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Alongside him, wicketkeeper-batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi contributed 45 runs from 33 balls, featuring five boundaries and two maximums. Cameron Green and Rovman Powell also finished strong, scoring 32 and 39 runs respectively.
Lucknow’s bowling attack saw Prince Yadav, M Siddharth, Digvesh Rathi, and Avesh Khan each claiming a wicket, while Mohammed Shami went wicketless. In the second innings, Ayush Badoni emerged as a game-changer with 54 runs off 34 balls, followed by Mukul Choudhary, who also scored an unbeaten 54 runs in just 27 balls. Ultimately, LSG chased down the target, scoring 182 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
KKR’s Vaibhav Arora and Anukul Roy each took two wickets, with Sunil Narine, Kartik Tyagi, and Green adding one apiece.
