In the IPL 2026 clash held at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati, the Mumbai Indians faced a 27-run defeat at the hands of the Rajasthan Royals. Following the match, former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble expressed his thoughts, stating that the ‘Paltan’ seemed to lack urgency and focus with the ball. “It appeared that the Mumbai Indians were missing a bit of purpose and intent with their bowling, and that certainly affected their batting performance as well. Chasing 151 runs in just 11 overs was always going to be a monumental task,” he remarked during his analysis on JioStar. Kumble also commended RR’s explosive opener, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who dazzled with a quickfire 39 runs off only 14 deliveries, featuring a boundary and five sixes. He noted that Sooryavanshi made batting look effortless against a top pacer, saying, “Sooryavanshi faced one of the world’s best bowlers and made it look easy. He hit Bumrah for a six on his first ball and took control of the situation, setting the bowler up instead of the other way around. Typically, we see Bumrah dictating terms to batters, but here, it was Sooryavanshi who anticipated the slower ball and dispatched it for another six. His striking ability and consistency, with a strike rate nearing 300 in every match and consistently scoring over 30 runs, are truly remarkable.” Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal shone with an unbeaten 77 runs from just 32 balls, supported by 10 boundaries and four sixes. As a result, the ‘Paltan’ has now recorded two losses in three matches, placing them seventh on the leaderboard with a net run rate of -0.715 and just two points. In contrast, the Riyan Parag-led Royals sit comfortably at the top, boasting three wins from three matches and a net run rate of +2.403 with six points. (With PTI Inputs)
