In a poised and methodical display, Swami Vivekanand International School (SVIS) from Borivli triumphed over Rizvi Springfield High School (Khar) by 47 runs, securing their spot in the finals of the Dream Sports Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school Giles Shield semi-final at the MCA-BKC ground on Thursday.
With a first-innings lead of 103 runs, the SVIS squad effectively capitalized on their second innings during the final day. He was well-supported by Sanchit Gawade, who contributed a lively 40 runs from 46 balls, featuring four fours and a six. Their efforts allowed SVIS to finish with 128 for 8 in the designated 40 overs.
For Rizvi, Pranav Paswan stood out with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 36 runs in 11 overs, while Siddhant Desai and Abdullah Khatri claimed 2 wickets each, with figures of 2-8 in 7 overs and 2-72 in 20 overs, respectively.
Chasing a target of 231 runs in 40 overs, Rizvi struggled to maintain their momentum despite Siddhant Desai’s impressive knock of 90 runs off 75 balls. Sujal Khot added a modest 30 runs, but regular wickets hindered their progress, resulting in their all-out total of 184 runs in 38.1 overs. Daivat Kawali was the standout bowler for SVIS, with 5 wickets for 76 runs in 19 overs, while Kartik Chhajer provided crucial support, claiming 3 wickets for 67 runs off 14.1 overs.
Chhajer’s all-round performance, which included scoring 77 runs and capturing a match total of seven wickets, earned him the Player of the Match accolade.
SVIS is set to face Dnyandeep Seva Mandal (Nerul) in the final, scheduled to take place at Brabourne Stadium from January 20 to 22.
