In a thrilling encounter at Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and decided to bat first against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The match marks a crucial moment for KKR, who are still in search of their first victory this season after suffering defeats in their initial two matches. On the other hand, PBKS has made a strong start, winning both of their opening games.
After the toss, Rahane expressed confidence in his decision, noting the dry nature of the pitch, which he believes will favor batting. “We are going to bat first. The wicket looks good, slightly drier with less grass, but very promising. It’s all about maintaining belief and seizing those key moments. We’ve made two forced changes due to injuries; Varun Chakaravarthy picked up a knock while taking a catch in the last match, and Sunil Narine is also out. We welcome Powell and Saini into the lineup,” Rahane stated.
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, pleased with the overcast conditions, was also content with the decision to bowl first. He praised his team’s unbeaten record and expressed hope for continued success. “I was inclined to bowl as well, so I’m happy with Ajinkya’s choice. Our chemistry has blossomed since our days at Delhi Capitals. He empowers the youngsters, and that inspires us all. We’re sticking with the same team,” Iyer remarked.
As KKR aims to turn their fortunes around, PBKS stands as the favorite to achieve three consecutive wins, bolstered by their strong start. Notably, former KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer will be looking to make a significant impact against his old team.
