The Delhi Capitals (DC) have kicked off their IPL 2026 season on a high note, securing victories in both of their initial matches. Now, they are set to clash with the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday, April 8, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
GT’s captain, Shubman Gill, was sidelined in the last match due to muscle spasms, but he is anticipated to return against DC. In a candid interview with mid-day.com, Kyle Jamieson from Delhi shared insights into the team’s approach towards facing Shubman Gill. He noted that while they develop strategies for every player, they will particularly focus on identifying any weaknesses in Gill’s game during the encounter.
“We haven’t quite gotten to that [planning] stage yet. We have a couple of training sessions lined up in the next few days, and then we’ll dive in. We, as always, will devise our plans and strategies for each player and team. However, this season, we are also emphasizing understanding our own strengths and how we want to execute our game plan. With every team boasting world-class players from top to bottom, it’s essential to look inward more closely in this tournament,” he stated.
Jamieson added, “We will certainly analyze Shubman and see if we can uncover any vulnerabilities in his game.”
In the previous matches, Sameer Rizvi has been a standout performer, earning accolades as an Impact Player. He delivered crucial innings in both games, scoring an impressive unbeaten 70 off 47 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which included five fours and four sixes. In the subsequent match against the Mumbai Indians (MI), he dazzled with a blistering 90 runs off 51 balls, hitting seven fours and seven sixes.
When asked if he shares any insights with the young batsman to help him tackle bowlers or deal with challenging deliveries, Jamieson mentioned that his support mainly comes through varied bowling during practice sessions.
“Batters have their game plans for each bowler. If I see an opportunity to offer advice that could benefit someone on the field, I always try to help. However, Sameer is currently in a good place,” said the Auckland-native.
“My role is to bowl in the nets and provide him with the variety he needs to tackle challenges. But he is doing well and doesn’t require much guidance from me at this moment,” concluded the 31-year-old.
As for the standings in IPL 2026, the Delhi Capitals are currently in third place with two wins from two matches, boasting a net run rate (NRR) of +1.170 and four points.
