In the thrilling T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson delivered an impressive performance, scoring 89 runs off just 46 balls. His innings featured five boundaries and an astonishing eight sixes before he fell to James Neesham’s bowling.
This remarkable innings was Samson’s third consecutive half-century in the tournament. Earlier, during the semi-final against England, the talented cricketer from Kerala had also scored 89 runs, but in just 41 balls, showcasing his explosive batting with eight boundaries and seven sixes. In the Super 8 match against the West Indies, he shined with an unbeaten 97 runs off 50 balls, including 12 boundaries and four sixes.
In the final against the ‘Black Caps’, Team India set an imposing target, finishing their innings at 255 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Alongside Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan also contributed significantly with half-centuries. Abhishek scored 52 runs off 21 balls, while Ishan made 54 runs off 25 deliveries, both adding to the team’s formidable total.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing; skipper Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed without scoring, and Hardik Pandya chipped in with 18 runs off 13 balls. Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube remained not out, with Dube making a quickfire 26 runs in just eight balls, which further bolstered India’s score.
James Neesham stood out with the ball for New Zealand, taking three wickets for 46 runs in his four overs, while Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry claimed one wicket each. The rest of the Kiwi bowlers, including Glenn Phillips, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, and captain Mitchell Santner, couldn’t find success.
