Cameron Green is set to make his bowling comeback for the Kolkata Knight Riders, offering a crucial boost to the three-time champions. KKR has been grappling with injuries among their key bowlers, and Green’s return could be just what the team needs, especially as they search for their first win of the IPL season.

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Green, who has yet to bowl in IPL 2026, began the season focusing solely on batting due to advice from Cricket Australia regarding his lower-back injury. However, he is on track to resume bowling in time for KKR’s upcoming match against LSG.

“Cameron has a lower-back injury that is being carefully managed, requiring a brief pause from bowling. He is currently rebuilding his bowling workload in India, with an anticipated return in about 10-12 days,” Cricket Australia stated on March 30.

KKR’s strategy has faced significant challenges early in the season. With Mustafizur Rahman unavailable even before the season kicked off, the team has struggled with the absence of crucial bowlers. The situation worsened with injuries to Harshit Rana and Akash Deep, alongside Varun Chakaravarthy’s hand injury and Sunil Narine’s illness, which kept him out of the last game.

At 26, Green’s batting performances have also faced scrutiny, as he has managed just 18, 2, and 4 runs in his first three innings since being acquired for a staggering Rs 25.20 crore at the IPL auction—the highest ever for an international player. This has raised questions about his position in the batting lineup.

Aaron Finch, the former Australian player, has voiced his support for Green, expressing hope that he can rediscover his form from his time with MI, where he notably scored a century for the five-time champions.

“One of his dismissals was a run out against SRH, which wasn’t entirely his fault. Still, he’s missed opportunities twice. There’s a sense of urgency; he doesn’t appear as confident as before. Remember when he opened for MI? He had a completely different mentality—he was commanding at the crease. Now, he seems hesitant. It’s essential not to push him down the order; either promote him or give him a breather,” Finch told ESPNcricinfo.
