In a thrilling chase, the Lucknow Super Giants made significant strides against Sunrisers Hyderabad, amassing 81 runs in just 10 overs as they pursue a target of 157 for their inaugural win this season. LSG kicked off their innings with an aggressive approach, targeting the SRH bowlers during the powerplay. South African opener Aiden Markram was in fine form, smashing 45 runs off 27 balls, putting LSG in a commanding position halfway through the innings.
Markram’s opening partner, Mitch Marsh, provided a steady foundation before being dismissed by Eshan Malinga in his very first over, contributing 14 runs off 12 balls. LSG’s captain Rishabh Pant stepped in at number three, hoping to build on the momentum alongside Markram. However, Markram’s innings came to an end when he was caught at long off, giving Shivang Kumar his maiden IPL wicket.
Eshan Malinga emerged as a pivotal bowler for SRH, claiming the vital wicket of Marsh early in the powerplay. After batting at the top order in the previous match, Rishabh Pant’s entry at number three was anticipated to guide his team towards their first victory of the season.
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to post 156 runs in their 20 overs, recovering from a shaky start in the powerplay. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klassen were the stars with the bat for the hosts, both scoring half-centuries. LSG, opting to bowl first, began strongly, as Mohammed Shami struck early by dismissing Abhishek Sharma in the opening over. Shami shone with the ball, taking two wickets for just 9 runs in his four overs, including both openers. Following a rocky beginning, Reddy and Klassen formed a solid partnership, helping SRH reach a competitive total of 156.
