In the IPL 2026 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Mumbai Indians (MI) faced a six-wicket defeat to the Delhi Capitals (DC). Regular captain Hardik Pandya was absent due to illness, leaving Suryakumar Yadav to lead the team. After the match, Yadav acknowledged that MI fell short by 15-20 runs, while also commending the performance of DC’s batsmen.

“When batting first, you focus on scoring, not just the total. We believed a score of 180-185 would be competitive. In hindsight, we missed the mark by 15-20 runs. The pitch was decent; we anticipated a slower surface, but from a batting perspective, we underperformed. However, I must recognize the efforts of our bowlers and the quality of their batting in the second innings,” he stated.

Yadav admitted that both he and Naman Dhir lost their wickets at crucial moments, which hindered their chances. He expressed confidence that the “Paltan” would regroup and prepare for their next match.

“Naman and I got out at critical times, or else we could have crossed a par score. Some days, despite your efforts, things don’t go as planned. But we’ll head back, reassess, and return stronger in the coming days,” Yadav commented.

In the second innings of the match, DC successfully chased down the target of 163 runs, finishing with 164 runs for the loss of four wickets in just 18.1 overs. KL Rahul was dismissed early for just one run, while Pathum Nissanka scored a solid 44 off 30 balls. Nitish Rana also fell for a duck, but Sameer Rizvi, as the Impact Player, delivered an impressive 90 runs off 51 balls, including seven boundaries and as many sixes. MI’s bowlers Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner, and Corbin Bosch each took one wicket.
