Former Australian cricket sensation David Warner has recently been charged with drink driving, according to news.com.au. Reports indicate that Warner underwent a breathalyser test on Sunday night in Maroubra, Sydney, where he blew twice the legal alcohol limit.
Details from NSW Police reveal that Warner had parked his vehicle before officers approached him for the test. Despite this, he was subjected to a breathalyser, which indicated a positive result. The police statement noted that the 39-year-old cricketer was subsequently arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a follow-up test recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.104.
The incident occurred around 5:30 PM on Sunday, April 5, 2026, while police were conducting random breath tests on Malabar Road, Maroubra. According to the police account, a van was seen stopping just before the testing site, prompting officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command to approach the vehicle. The driver, identified as Warner, tested positive and was arrested.
He received a Field Court Attendance Notice for driving under the influence and is expected to appear in court at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Warner, who announced his retirement from international cricket in 2024 following Australia’s exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, played his final international match against India during the tournament’s Super 8 stage. Prior to this, he had stepped away from ODI cricket after the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup and from Test cricket in January 2024. Recently, he has been leading the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, where the team is currently second on the points table with three consecutive wins. They are set to face Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, April 9, at the National Stadium in Karachi.
